The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
