Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important official commented the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
